Tabbing solutions for windows
In my quest for organizing windows on Windows (hihi). here are 2 apps I like:
Both these apps allow you to have other windows inside a tabbed meta-app. This means that you don't have so many buttons in the taskbar, and once inside this meta-app you can TAB these apps. This is most usefull with shells.
WinTabber - Cool because you can move a current window from the desktop to this tabbed environment and back to the desktop. Bad because it has focus problems; e.g. clicking the contents of the tabbed window doesn't bring WinTabber to the foreground. ...and other small issues. These minor issues should be fixed shortly.
Console - This is my favourite. From their website: "Console is a Windows console window enhancement. Console features include: multiple tabs, text editor-like text selection, different background types, alpha and color-key transparency, configurable font, different window styles". You can configure different styles of tabs, e.g. you can have one style run putty, another one run bash.exe and the default one running cmd.exe

If life was simple - Middle East
If life was simple, people would invest in R&D for any type of technology that would give us energy independence from oil. It's amazing what a few hundred billion $$$ could do for this.
If life was simple we would then leave the middle east for good. We would take a few pictures first, then we would just forget that place ever existed. We would leave them to fight it out between themselves.
Israelis and Arabs are like brothers. Unfortunately some of the biggest fights are between brothers. It is not uncommon for some rivalry between siblings to go to the grave with them. But who would give a rat's ass about them if we wouldn't depend on the oil they have?
Oil breeds terrorism so let's get rid of oil.

jed keys
Getting Home, End and Del keys to work properly in jed working under a terminal (ssh'd with putty in a fedora linux box)
taken from here.
- locate the system jed.rc and copy it to ~/.jedrc (In Debian it's in /usr/share/jed/lib/jed.rc ) This is because if you just setup a clean ~/.jedrc, it would not run the original file, and stick to the raw jed defaults - which are not very friendly.
- you can determine the key codes from inside jed. Type: ESC-x quoted_insert <Enter>,then press the "Home" or "End" or "Del" key to have the key code inseted into your buffer
Work in .jedrc, start with something like this:
setkey ("beg_of_line", "");
setkey ("eol_cmd", "");
setkey ("delete_char_cmd", "");Execute the quoted-insert inside the "". For me, the keys look like this:
setkey ("beg_of_line", "^[[1~");
setkey ("eol_cmd", "^[[4~");
setkey ("delete_char_cmd", "^[[3~");

Beware Science
This really pisses me off. I realize this blog turns into a rlog - rant blog but here it goes.
I ordered a telescope part from
Efston Science (ES) on the 15-16 of May. It was supposed to have a lead time of 2 weeks. Needless to say that it didn't happen, June passed and the part was not in sight. I cannot blame ES too much for this as they had to order it out, but still, they probably order in batches, so if it takes the other company 2 weeks to ship the parts, and it takes ES a month to put the order in… well, you get the idea.
End of June, I speak with my contact in ES which tells me the part is not in yet, and he goes on vacation. Today, 12th of June I get a notice from the postal office that a parcel has arrived. I pick it up, and voila, my part.
Nothing wrong you say? Well, let me just mention that I live 30 km from the ES and in the last 2 years I always picked up my parts directly from the store. Why in the name of god did they ship this one? And take this, shipping was almost 17$ which I had to pay out of my own pocket. The part if fairly small, it would have qualified for small parcel = 7-8$. They packed it in a used Business Depot box which was probably too big for small parcel. Why didn't they call me to arrange pickup-shipping? It really doesn't matter if you ship something over 30 km in the GTA if you pay for express or normal, it is still gonna show up the next day. Grrrrrrr. It would have taken me 30 minutes and 3$ in gas to pick it up. Instead I got slapped with 17$ of express mail.
And on top of this, they did the invoiving on the 28th of June, 2 days before the GST went down from 7% to 6%. If they only shipped the part on the 10th of July, why did the do the invoice on the 28th of June?
I'm really pissed about how this company is treating their customers. I feel like I paid too much. The extra money didn't even make it in the pockets of ES. Does it make them happy they made the government richer with my money? Of course, because ES is unique in the whole town I cannot take my business elsewhere… so what should I do?
Guys, please stop lying about how much time it takes for parts to be brought in. And please try not to waste my money. The only thing going for you is that you are the only place in town go get the products I'm interested in. Right now I don't feel loyal to your store, and if another one opens up I'll take my business there immediately.

Romaniaaaaa
Citesc de nebun bloguri romanesti, asa intre 2 compilari. Uneori rad, alteori plang in sinea mea.
Ce sens are sa blogui? Nu stiu. Jurnalul asta e inutil si pueril. Si totusi ma cuprinde din cand in cand dorul de a scrie. Ciudat.
Back to coding, stupid, animalic, nightwish baga in casti, apoi vreun rap stupid, sa se faca o data ora 6 sa ma car, condus gramada, casa goala, fara suflet, bere, vin, somn.... poate o noua zi, da-ar domnu sa dea cu bomba sa nu mai fii.

TrueCrypt
I've tried
TrueCrypt recently. The aim was to keep all my personal files crypted. The program worked great; creating a volume was easy, it showed up immediatelly as a drive letter.
The only problem I had was that my personal files are synchronized with my server with svn. And svn failed miserably to work on the TrueCrypt volume. It tells me constantly that the repository is locked and I should clean it up.
Reading through the TrueCrypt forums, I've found a few people complaining about this. So.... unless they fix it, this tool is of no use to me now.
Damn, it was promising.

Brampton ER trip
I picked up N around 3pm to go to the ER. Her eye is hurting more than ever, and no trips to any doctors are planned yet, so we had to do this.
Because she had second thoughs about an ER trip (because of a nightmare ER trip in East York General when we had the SARS scare in Toronto) we went to a walk-in clinic first. There she was seen by a pediatrist (!!!), and then by an ophtalmologist, which didn't want to take her case and sent her to the ER.
We got back in Brampton around 6pm and went to the ER. There, we were greeted by a full waiting room just right of the entry, and a big line-up in front of the triage counter. We waited in the line for about 45 minutes, then she was seen by the nurse in charge of the triage. The nurse took her temperature, wrote her papers while constantly looking in her eyes. I have a feeling she was trying to see if N BSes her. N was kinda scared at this point, but was hurting badly, she has this stare in her eyes that hinted whe was in real pain. The nurse got us the ok to go further, we moved to another counter where another nurse got N her hospital card and took care of the OHIP registration.
Then we moved into the ER core, we passed all the examination booths (they have this purple foot track printed on the floor to guide you). We left her papers with the ER nurse in charge then we moved to another waiting room (almost empty), with TV, papers and a bunch of really sick people. There was a guy with some sort of splinter in his eye, a kid with a battery up his nose, another kid that looked beat-up, nose bleeding broken and a couple of fellas with body pains… a guy that was holding his stomach, and another girl. After about an hour, we got called inside the ER, and a doctor examined her briefly. We clearly didn't make a good impression on the doctor, but at least he gave her painkillers and scheduled her for a specialist to see her.
All in all, it took us close to 3 hours, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it.
